Bitter almond liqueur, in Portuguese “Amêndoa Amarga”, is one of Portugal's most famous and appreciated liqueurs. Its production originated in the Algarve region, following the recovery and reassessment of little-used bitter almonds. Crushed, marinated and then distilled, bitter almonds, previously so poorly rated, were transformed into a product of great quality. The recipe for Famosa almond liqueur dates back to ancient times. Flavored with bitter almonds, this original formula is perfect both as an aperitif and as an optimal finish for a special meal. It can be served in cocktails, accompanied by lemon juice and ice. It must be served very fresh. The taste is sweet but on the finish slightly bitter. An enveloping scent of almond.
