The Pelago by Umani Ronchi is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Montepulciano grapes harvested in the area of Osimo, in the province of Ancona. The vineyards of origin - exposed to the South-East - lie on hilly clayey-loamy soils of limestone matrix, at an altitude between 100 and 150 meters above sea level. After the manual harvest, carried out with a yield of 50-70 quintals per hectare, the bunches were transported to the cellar to start the winemaking. The alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 27-29°C for 14-15 days, thanks to the help of indigenous yeasts. The refinement took place in 225 liter French oak barriques for 14 months and for a further 12 months in the bottle.
PELAGO UMANI RONCHI: TASTING
The Pelago of Umani Ronchi reveals itself at the sight of an intense ruby red color with purple reflections. On the nose, aromas of small ripe berries emerge which chase balsamic hints and light evolved notes of vanilla, tobacco and dark spices. The sip is harmonious and full-bodied, enhanced by a smooth tannic texture and a well-integrated minerality that persists in the finish. At the table it pairs well with mature cheeses as well as succulent land dishes based on red meat or game.
